Jake's Progress

The adventures of a lurcher in the Scottish capital

Agility goals for 2009

This time last year we'd been to a couple of non-Kennel Club agility shows, and I was psyching us up for going to play with the big boys and girls. Here we are a year later, and we've been to several (by no means all) of the east of Scotland shows. Jake is halfway to his bronze agility warrant and we could progress to grade 2 on points if we want ... I'm so proud of the Heinz from the dogs home.

Here's what I want us to work on this year.

- Pull-throughs, pull-throughs, pull-throughs.
- Keeping Jake chilled round the agility shows. (Cheek by jowl with stranger dogs never his favourite; at least we now understand how the shows operate and how to manage Jake's experience).
- We'll be working on those weaves ... again. For ever, probably!
- Contacts need to both reliable and at speed - not either/or.
- Distance work.
- Coping with Jake's inner speed demon.

I personally need to practise my turns, making clear signals, and er, my own sprinting.

Pic of Jake with insane toothy grin

Jake is a black & tan lurcher, adopted from Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home in August 2004. He now lives the life of Riley in a leafy suburb of Edinburgh. His interests include agility, running like the wind, enticing other dogs to chase him, fellow sighthounds Molly & Steve, squirrels, swans, plush swans, swans on telly, Portobello beach, the Edinburgh hills, sofas, & snoozing.

Jake wears Earth Dog hemp collars from Mango Mutt. His collar tag (compliant with KC agility regs) is from the excellent Indigo Collar Tags.
