Behold the leaning tower of greenhouse.

Usually at this time of year Jake is enjoying regular trips to the
allotment with us. I'd expect to be posting pics of Jake sniffing round the raised beds, telling the inevitable stories of how lurcher-boy harvested some fruit and veg he shouldn't ... Our greenhouse blew over in a storm earlier this year and we're still picking pieces of broken glass out of the earth. This is a small tragedy for Jake, who should by rights be looking forward to eating freshly picked strawberries which have previously nibbled by other beasties, lounging on the freshly mulched beds, helping with the digging and trying to work out how to get to the manure while our backs are turned.

A picture says a thousand words. What a look of resignation as Jake is forced to stand next to yet another enormous allotment vegetable. I bet he's thinking that
RinTinTin never had to pose next to a beetroot.

Cautionary words about the lurcherini on the allotment:
guard your turnip tops. Jake was recently caught chowing down on these as though they were the finest beef bone. He usually gives the greens a miss. NB He wasn't scoffing the actual turnip, which he considerately left for us - or perhaps he thought it was a ball and could be brought to us later for recreation?
What followed was predictable ... desperate whining at the bedside at 3am ... emergency dash to back garden... here we will draw a veil...

Today Jake learned some important lessons about where his food comes from.
1. Potatoes are dug up. Out of the
GROUND!
2. Carrots are also dug up, and are a compelling mix of food and stick.
